Jersey Knight Asparagus & Yellow Alpine Strawberry

Postby transcendentalhippie » Sat Feb 07, 2009 4:13 pm

Hello - I recently purchased a small pot of asparagus and the yellow alpine strawberry. I haven't planted them in the ground yet, the asparagus has started growing two super skinny shoots, they're too tall to support themselves. They look like spears, but stretched out and very thin. Is this normal? My parents have asparagus in their garden, but I've never noticed growth like this.

The strawberry doesn't look like it's doing too well. It's been losing stems/leaves since I got it, but there were new shoots to replace them. There aren't anymore. Suggestions?

I also bought a pomegranate and paw paw - the pom looks awesome! It has three flower buds, one is about 2 cm and there are two little ones. I'm really enjoying watching them grow!

Thanks!

Yes it is normal for your asparagus. Your strawberries may be stressed from being inside? Michael

Asparagus - ok, thanks!

Strawberry - is there anything I can do for them at this stage? It doesn't have any healthy growth left, but I could set it outside. I kept it inside because the paperwork said it hadn't been hardened off to the cold temperatures.

Thanks!

Can asparagus and strawberries share a bed? I hear that onions should be grown in my strawberries. Any info on companion planting?

Invert it, ceck roots.. White? Alive? If so plant in ground asap. I would not plant strawberries and asparagus together. Both heavy feeders... Michael
