Small evergreen tree hardy outside in a sheltered spot to about 15 degrees F. As far north as Seattle on the West Coast and along the Gulf Coast and East Coast up to Virginia Beach. Adapted to container culture as an indoor or greenhouse plant over winter. 1-2" fruits are juicy with a mild, sweet flavor, fragrant flowers, large, long serrated leaves. Fruiting differs from other plants, i.e., over-wintering on the tree and ripening in the spring. Fall flowers fill the outside air with their fragrance. Space 12' circle. Zone 8

Early ripening type, hence the name Christmas. Loquats usually ripen in the spring. Christmas loquat is a better choice for the northern part of their adaptability zone because they ripen around Christmas. Fruits are large for a loquat. Zone 8B-10. Can be grown as a container plant in the north. Loquats are very insect free. Their blooms are fragrant and they are evergreen. They can be grown as a hedge. Self fertile. Mature height around 15'.

(Japanese) "White fleshed Loquat". Selected and introduced into cultivation in California by C. P. Taft Around 1908. Taft considered it superior to his other varieties in flavor. Season for Fruit in Orange, Ca is April to May. Elongated pear-shaped, skin pale-golden to deep-yellow. Flesh white or yellow, soft, juicy, mild and sub acid to sweet excellent flavor. Midseason to late,. Prolific, fruits in borne in large clusters. Perishable, good for preserving. Tree has long, narrow, pointed leaves. Self fertile. Space around 12' circle. Zone 8B-10.
