A unique houseplant in the north or a landscape specimen in tropical zones, Dwarf Red Pineapple boasts a array of red. Generally fruiting in the summer, it is self fruitful, ornamental, producing 3" red fruit above purple-bronze foliage. After the bloom, which is in the center of the plant, the fruit rises on a stalk, taking @ 3 months to ripen. Leaves are smooth and easy to handle. Zones 9-10.

Smooth Cayanne pineapple is seen at grocery store produce sections and is grown in Hawaii. Can be home grown in tropical areas or as a houseplant in a container. Generally fruiting in the summer on a patio, solarium, etc. Self fruitful. Large Hawaiian type, smooth edged leaf. The flavor of your own harvest is very rewarding since you can let it ripen to its sweetest maturity. Soil in the pot should be well drained. We usually add more perlite and bark to our regular potting soil. Pineapples are related to air plants and receive a lot of nutriment through their leaves. Zones 9-10.
