Vaccinium corymbosum 'Arlen'

The 'Arlen' blueberry cultivar originated from the University of North Carolina Agriculture Research Station. It is a highbush type that reaches a height of 5-6 feet at maturity. The plant is upright with strong vigor and is resistant to stem blight disease (Botryosphaeria dothidea). Ripening occurs about 7 days later than 'Legacy', making it a late-ripening variety. In 2006, yields in Chatsworth, New Jersey, were 15 pounds per plant, with consistent results in previous years. The berries are medium to large, with an attractive appearance, and have a distinct flavor with high sugar content and mild acidity, reminiscent of the true blueberry. Additionally, the fruits show resistance to anthracnose fruit rot (Colletotrichum spp.) and have a long shelf life in storage. The plant is hardy in zones 5-8 and adapts well to California and the Pacific Northwest. Space plants 5 feet apart.

Due to import restrictions, we are unable to ship blueberries to California.
