Eriobotrya japonica (Golden Nugget Loquat)

Due to import restrictions Golden Nugget Loquat cannot be shipped to California, Europe, or Canada.

The Golden Nugget Loquat is a small evergreen tree that is hardy in sheltered spots, tolerating temperatures down to about 15°F. It can thrive as far north as Seattle on the West Coast and along the Gulf Coast and East Coast up to Virginia Beach. This variety is well-suited to container culture, making it an ideal indoor or greenhouse plant over the winter. The fruits, measuring 1-2 inches, are juicy with a mild, sweet flavor. The tree features fragrant flowers and large, long serrated leaves. A unique trait of this plant is its fruiting cycle: the fruit over-winters on the tree and ripens in the spring. The fall flowers fill the air with a wonderful fragrance. Space plants 12 feet apart. Best suited for Zone 8.
