Verte figs ripen around the same time as LSU Purple, making them ideal for growth in zones 7–8. In long growing seasons, the fruits dry naturally on the tree around October. The figs are exceptionally sweet and great for drying. Since their skin remains green when ripe, they often escape the notice of birds. The dark red, strawberry-colored flesh is a striking contrast to the green exterior. This variety is also known as Green Ischia.
In cooler regions, plants tend to grow as bush-like shrubs of small stature, similar to Violet de Bordeaux. When planting, allow for spacing of 8–10 feet in zones 6–7 and 12–15 feet in zone 8.
