Punica granatum (Crimson Sky)

The Nikitskii Ranii Pomegranate is known as Crimson Sky in the U.S. It is also referred to as R19, as it was originally planted at the University of Georgia's test plot, where Dr. Levin researched the hardiest pomegranate varieties from Turkmenistan. The term "Ranii" in Russian means "early," and Crimson Sky lives up to this name, ripening its fruit in early October. The fruits are consistently bright red with a delicious, balanced flavor—sweet and tart. Zone 7-8 for trial in Zone 6.
