Elaeagnus multiflora – Red Gem Goumi

Due to import restrictions, we are unable to ship Goumi to CA.

Red Gem Goumi is native to the Russian Far East, China, and Japan. This versatile, ornamental, and fruit-bearing shrub reaches about 6 feet in height, forming a dense, rounded shape with attractive silvery-green foliage that adds elegance to any edible landscape.

In mid to late May, Red Gem Goumi bursts into bloom with white, highly fragrant flowers that are beloved by bees and other pollinators, making this plant an excellent addition to pollinator-friendly gardens.

The juicy, scarlet-red fruit, ripening in July, is speckled with silver and offers an aromatic flavor reminiscent of pie cherries. Fruit is delicious eaten fresh and also makes tasty preserves, juices, sauces, or fruit leather. The berries are very high in nutritional value, rich in vitamins C, A, and E, flavonoids, antioxidants, and even essential fatty acids.

Goumi thrives in poor or average soils, needing little care once established. This nitrogen-fixing shrub improves soil fertility, making it a great companion for other fruiting plants. Self-fertile and well-suited for edible hedges or mixed borders.
