Chaenomeles speciosa – Toyo Nishiki Seedling
New for 2025.
A promising new seedling selection from Toyo Nishiki Flowering Quince. This compact, ornamental shrub exhibits many of the desirable traits of its parent, including abundant early spring blooms and excellent adaptability in the landscape. Like Toyo Nishiki, it appears to be significantly more disease resistant than traditional fruiting quince varieties, making it an attractive low-maintenance choice for home gardens.
The flowers bloom in early spring alongside forsythia and are similar in color and form to the parent plant. Fruits ripen in fall.
As this is a new selection for us, we have not yet evaluated the mature fruit for size, flavor, or culinary quality. Additional information will be added as the plant comes into production.
