Vaccinium ashei (Alapaha Rabbiteye Blueberry (uh-la-puh-HAH)
Note: Due to import restrictions, we cannot ship Alapaha Blueberry to California.
Named for the Alapaha River in southern Georgia, Alapaha was released in 2001 as a mid-season rabbiteye blueberry. The plant is vigorous and upright with narrow crowns. Alapaha flowers late (7 to 10 days after Climax), reducing the risk of spring freeze damage, yet ripens quickly, around the same time as Climax.

The medium-sized berries are sweet, firm, and have excellent flavor. They are medium-dark blue with a small dry scar, which contributes to good shelf life. The chilling requirement is 450-500 hours, and Alapaha is resistant to rain cracking. It is somewhat self-fertile, but cross-pollination with other rabbiteye blueberries of similar bloom times, like Vernon, is recommended.US Plant Patent: 16,266
