Juglans regia - Carpathian English Walnuts

Carpathian English walnuts are attractive yard trees with a rounded, spreading form. When the fruits ripen, their green husks split open, and the walnuts fall to the ground, ready for harvesting. Seedling trees typically begin producing 3 to 6 years after planting. However, according to Alabama A&M University, in the southern U.S., a soil-borne virus often affects English walnut trees, particularly in sandy soils, so they are not recommended for the Gulf states. English walnuts thrive in regions that are not prone to late spring frosts. Ideal growing zones are 5-9, with a spacing requirement of 20 feet in diameter.
