Asimina triloba – Shenandoah Pawpaw
Shenandoah is a superior pawpaw selection originating as a seedling of Overleese. Known for excellent fruit quality, it has smooth, custard-like flesh with a sweet, fruity flavor, pleasant fragrance, and agreeable aftertaste. Large fruit contains relatively few seeds, approximately 6% by weight, with a firmer texture than wild pawpaw. Fruit is often borne singly and the trees produce good yields.
Shenandoah has become a favorite with pawpaw customers at the DuPont Circle farmers market in Washington, DC. Even those unfamiliar with pawpaws have been won over by its excellent flavor. Responds well to pruning.
Fruit ripens early to mid-season. Space 12' circle. Zones 5–8.
