Shin Li is a large to very large fruit with a full-bodied, pyriform (pear-shaped) form. The flesh is firm, white, crisp, and juicy, offering a sweet yet slightly tart flavor. The skin ripens to a light yellowish-green. The tree is upright with slightly spreading growth and shows strong resistance to fire blight.
Shin Li stores exceptionally well — up to five to six months under proper conditions. Developed at UC Davis, this variety is a cross between a Chinese and a Japanese pear. According to A. J. Bullard of Mount Olive, NC, Shin Li and Korean Giant are among the best fire blight–resistant Asian pears.
Space trees about 10 feet apart for semi-dwarf size, and 15 feet apart for standard size.
