Rubus idaeus (Glencoe)

The Glencoe raspberry is a hybrid developed by the Scottish Crop Research Institute, a cross between native black raspberry and red raspberry. The flavor is reported to be excellent, and the plant grows in a bushy form, making it ideal for containers or the home garden. One plant will produce a multi-stemmed clump, so it can be a space-saver and will not spread as much as red or yellow raspberries. Tip prune in the summer to about 30 inches to maintain a bushy shape, and remove old canes after they’ve fruited. Glencoe is resistant to Verticillium Wilt and thrives in Zones 4-8. Space plants 2-3 feet apart.
