The Sweetheart cherry is a self-fertile variety introduced by the Agriculture Canada Research Station at Summerland, British Columbia. This tree is known for its productivity, with medium to large-sized cherries that are very firm and flavorful. Sweetheart cherries are a late-season variety, prized for their extended hang time, bright red outer skin, and heart-like shape. The inner flesh is juicy with a firm texture, offering a sugary sweet flavor with a well-balanced tart finish.

Sweetheart cherries have a prolonged harvest season, heavy crop yields, and crisp, crack-resistant fruit. As a self-fertile tree, it produces a healthy crop even when planted alone. The Sweetheart cherry was awarded the Royal Horticultural Society Award of Garden Merit in 2014.
