So Jujube aka Contorted So
Zizyphus jujuba ‘Contorted’ (also known as ‘So’)
The ‘Contorted’ jujube is a unique small tree known for its zig-zagging, angled branches that add striking visual interest to the landscape. It produces round, sweet, and crisp fruit that holds well on the tree—longer than most jujube varieties. It is typically the first to ripen in collections, making it an early-season favorite.
This variety is easy to grow, compact, and produces excellent fruit that is enjoyable fresh. It makes an attractive and productive specimen for home gardens and is also a great option for public landscapes. Originally introduced from China in 1914 by renowned plant explorer Frank Meyer.
