Vaccinium corymbosum – ‘Sweetheart’ Blueberry
Sweetheart is a very early-season highbush blueberry, developed as a northern/southern cross, valued for its vigorous growth, reliable production, and excellent fruit quality. Plants form an upright shrub reaching 5–6 feet tall with a 3-foot spread and produce consistently heavy yields when well established.
The berries are light blue, very firm, and known for their excellent storage and handling qualities. Flavor is mild and pleasant, making them well suited for fresh eating as well as baking, freezing, and preserves. Sweetheart performs best in full sun and fertile, high-organic-matter soils with consistent moisture.
While partly self-fertile, yields are significantly improved when planted with another compatible northern highbush blueberry variety for cross-pollination. This cultivar is a strong early-season option for extending the blueberry harvest window.
