The Yates variety is known for its large fruit, with a diameter of up to 2 ½ inches. It ripens from late August to September and is highly productive. This cultivar is self-fertile and was discovered by Ed Yates of Cincinnati, OH. In 1983, Yates won first place at the Mitchell Persimmon Festival.
