Diospyros virginiana × kaki - Nikita's Gift™ Persimmon
Due to import restrictions, we are unable to ship Persimmon to CA.
One of the finest persimmon introductions available, Nikita's Gift™ is a hybrid developed at the historic Nikita Botanical Garden in Yalta, Ukraine. This exceptional cross combines the cold hardiness of the American persimmon with the outstanding fruit quality of Asian persimmons.
The attractive red-orange fruit ripens from late fall into early winter and develops a rich, sweet flavor more similar to Asian persimmons than other hybrids. Unlike many Asian varieties, Nikita's Gift™ offers remarkable cold hardiness, making it suitable for a much wider range of climates. The fruit is best eaten when fully soft and develops excellent flavor and texture as it ripens.
Trees are upright, productive, and self-fertile, requiring approximately a 12-foot circle of space at maturity. Fall foliage turns a beautiful yellow, adding ornamental value to the landscape. Mature trees typically reach 10–12 feet in height and are hardy in Zones 5–8.
