The Perdue Pear is a distinctive and flavorful southern pear cultivar, uniquely discovered as a seedling at the Perdue family farm in Rosendale, Louisiana. Celebrated for its exceptionally smooth, sweet, and juicy flesh—with notably fewer grit cells—it offers a creamy sweetness reminiscent of Golden Delicious apples. Relatively hardy and reliable, it's ready for harvest by early August and continues to soften if left to ripen further. Perdue pear exhibits high resistance to fire blight.
